GET ME HIRED KRISTI! OKAY I GOT YOU!

Dear Future Hires,

Let’s talk about something too many job seekers are quietly battling:
the judgment that comes from hiring managers when having short‑term contracts on your resume.

Because YES hiring teams will judge you. It’s unfortunate but true.

But here’s the part they don’t tell you:
Most of us didn’t choose short-term contracts. The market chose them for us.

The Moment That Sparked This Conversation

I told this story a few weeks ago on LinkedIn. During my own job search, I interviewed for a role and had one of those magical conversations with a hiring manager.
Great energy. Great alignment. I walked away thinking, “Oh, I definitely crushed that.”

Then the recruiter followed up and said the hiring manager had “concerns” about the short-term contracts on my resume.

The funny part?

I was interviewing for a 6 month contract…
that could end early…
with no guarantee of renewal…
which would put me right back in the same position they were judging me for.

Please make it make sense.

The Truth About Short-Term Contracts (That Hiring Managers Forget)

Short-term contracts end early for reasons that have nothing to do with your talent:

  • Budgets shift

  • Leadership changes

  • Teams restructure

  • Priorities flip overnight

  • Entire departments get dissolved

None of that reflects your work ethic, your value, or your potential.

But the judgment still shows up.
So let’s talk about how to flip the narrative.

How to Combat the Judgment and Reclaim Your Story

When someone questions your short-term roles, don’t panic, work on reframing your experience.

Use these strategies:

  • Lead with impact. Show what you delivered in a short amount of time.

  • Highlight adaptability. You ramp up fast and add value quickly.

  • Show resourcefulness. You know how to pivot under pressure and still perform.

  • Connect everything to business outcomes. Make it clear your work moved the needle.

You’re not “job hopping.”
You’re navigating a market that changes every 90 days. And look at you! Still finding ways to stand tall.

A Reminder for Anyone Feeling Discouraged

If you’ve taken short-term contracts to survive, that doesn’t make you unstable.
It makes you resilient.
It makes you strategic.
It makes you someone who keeps going even when the market doesn’t care.

And that is the kind of grit every team needs.

You’re still standing.
You’re still showing up.
And you’re still in the game.

I’m proud of you.

💬 Get Me Hired Kristi Q&A:

Job Seeker Question: “I keep getting to final rounds but not getting chosen. What am I doing wrong?”

Answer: When you keep getting to final rounds but not the offer, the simplest place to start is asking yourself whether your story, your confidence, and your connection are landing clearly. Ask yourself: Am I telling a consistent story across every round? Am I showing the impact I can make, not just the tasks I’ve done? Am I interviewing with confidence instead of “please pick me” energy? And am I building real connection by asking thoughtful questions and showing I understand their business? These quick gut‑checks help you spot where things might be slipping so you can tighten your message and show up as the strongest version of yourself in the next round.
