GET ME HIRED KRISTI! OKAY I GOT YOU!
Dear Future Hires,
Youโre hustling! Updating your resume, applying, networking and then BOOM: an offer shows up in your inbox that feels a little too perfect.
Before you click, sign, or send letโs break down the common employment scams you need to dodgeโand how to stay protected while chasing the career you deserve.
๐ญ 1. The Impersonator Scam
โHi, Iโm a recruiter from Meta and we found your resume impressiveโฆโ
They use real company logos and even fake emails that look legit. You get excited then they ask for personal info or payment for onboarding. ๐ฉ โ Real recruiters never ask for money or banking info. Check emails carefully and verify through official career pages.
๐ธ 2. The Upfront Fee Scam
โWe guarantee placement for $199.99!โ
If someone promises interviews or dream jobs, but only after you cough up cashโฆ itโs a scam. โ No legit company charges you to apply. Period.
๐ต๏ธ 3. The Work-from-Home Trap
โMake $1,200/week working remote with no experience! Only work 60-90 minutes a dayโ
Tempting, right? They lure you in, then ask for your address to โsend equipmentโโor request banking info to โset up payroll.โ โ Research the company and job title. If it's vague, sketchy, or sounds too good to be true, dig deeper.
๐ 4. The Phishing Interview
Fake Zoom & Calendar links, suspicious โinterview platforms,โ requests to download strange software.
They pose as hiring teams and trick you into clicking malicious links. โ Use only trusted video platforms and watch for typos or odd URLs. Employers never require software downloads just to โchat.โ
That was a lot & Iโm so sorry that we have to go through all of this just to find a job! Here are my top tips for staying safe:
Use a dedicated job search email
Never give out your SSN, bank info, or home address before a verified offer
Always double-check recruiter profiles and hiring portals

๐ค๐พANSWERING YOUR JOB SEARCH QUESTION!
I was laid off and I keep getting to the final round of interviews but not getting chosen. What are the questions I can ask myself to figure out where Iโm going wrong and optimize?
-Ashley
First of all you are doing such a good job with making it to the final round! Congrats! Now we just need to seal the deal! Before we get into what questions you should ask, letโs talk about how you can stand out.
In this tough job market there are multiple, qualified job seekers making it to the final round. One thing I do to make sure I stand out is to create a presentation or a pitch. You can ask the recruiter what things will be covered in the final round and add that to your pitch deck. Make sure your pitch deck covers why you will be a good fit for the role and how you would solve a potential problem WITHOUT GIVING AWAY TO MUCH INFORMATION. Not saying it will guarantee you a job offer, but will definitely help when it comes to impressing the hiring manager.
Questions you can ask at the end of the interview:
โWhat does your team do well & what are some challenges a candidate like myself could come in & assist with?
โBased on my answers, do you have any hesitance about my candidacy that I can help clear up?โ (Iโve heard many other recruiters push back on this although I find it helpful)
My linktree is filled with job seeker reach out temples, resume and cover letter builders along with FREE AI certs to help you be successful.
Thatโs it for now, but just know when I come across something to help you land a job or assist in making extra money, youโll be the FIRST to know! Love yall ๐
P.S. New job announcement going up on LinkedIn this week!
