Job Seeker Question: “I’ve applied to so many roles and barely hear back. How do I know if it’s my resume, my strategy or the job market and how do I fix it?”
Answer: It’s usually a mix of visibility, clarity, and alignment and the good news is, all three are fixable.
Here’s how to diagnose what’s actually happening:
1️⃣ If you’re applying to everything → It’s your strategy.
When your applications are scattered, your résumé becomes scattered too.
Recruiters can’t tell what lane you’re in, so they move on.
Fix it:
Pick one job title you want to be found for.
Align your resume, keywords & LinkedIn headline to that lane.
Clarity gets callbacks.
2️⃣ If your résumé lists tasks instead of impact → It’s your résumé.
A résumé that reads like a job description won’t stand out in a pile of 300+ applicants.
Recruiters skim for results, not responsibilities.
Fix it:
Rewrite your bullets to show:
the problem you solved
the action you took
the result you delivered
Impact is what gets interviews.
3️⃣ If you’re only applying online → It’s your visibility.
In this market, applications alone aren’t enough.
You need a human connection to break through the noise.
Fix it:
For every job you apply to, reach out to:
a recruiter
a hiring manager
or someone on the team
A simple, clear message can move your resume from the bottom of the pile to the top.
4️⃣ If you’re doing all the right things and still hearing nothing → It’s the market.
Some industries are slow.
Some teams are understaffed.
Some roles get paused without warning.
Fix it:
Control what you can control:
your clarity
your résumé
your outreach
your consistency
The market may be tough, but tough markets reward job seekers who stay strategic.
